The strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye is considered a key guarantee of peace and security in the region. Strengthened further on a legal basis by the Shusha Declaration, the alliance has recently become a target for various ideological, political and intelligence circles. Attacks carried out through social media and radical groups are aimed at weakening the enduring ties between the two countries.

Who is behind these provocations, and what are the main reasons for targeting Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations?

Speaking to the “Operative Information Center-OMM”, Milli Majlis (National Assembly) member Hikmat Babaoğlu said Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations constitute a strategic alliance based on the principle of “One nation, two states” and reinforced by legal commitments:

“History itself has proved that when Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations are at a high level, it becomes possible to achieve a great deal not only in the interests of the two countries, but also in establishing peace and stability across a much wider region. That is why various intelligence centers try to target these relations at every opportunity — both on public platforms and through social media, as well as in the context of the radical positions of various ideological and religious-ideological groups. But the Azerbaijani people have a proverb: ‘What can the wind take from a rock?’ No matter how much social media and various radical groups coordinate their efforts to attack Azerbaijan-Türkiye relations, they will achieve nothing.”

The MP also clearly outlined the foreign forces opposed to this unity and their objectives:

“Those who oppose it are the forces that tried to topple the Turkish state on July 15, 2016. They are the forces that have no interest in brotherly Türkiye and Azerbaijan carrying out major communications projects. They are the forces that fully support Armenian terrorists living in Garabagh, send weapons to Armenia from their territory, oppose the Zangezur corridor, try to spread radical sectarianism in Azerbaijan and, finally, are the neighbor next door that has declared a drug war against Azerbaijan. And, of course, the northern neighbor also opposes it.”

Hikmat Babaoğlu stressed that although these circles act under different names, their main objective is the same:

“In other words, although they appear on the surface to be different forces, they hold the same position toward Azerbaijan-Türkiye brotherhood. The north, the south and the Soros-affiliated groups on the other side of the ocean all have the same objective. They are our real enemies. That is why both Turkish and Azerbaijani societies must remain alert and not allow such large-scale global provocations aimed at weakening our strength. We are moving toward a great future, and that future is not far away.”
