A medical-meteorological forecast has been issued.
The National Hydrometeorology Service said that atmospheric pressure is expected to rise on the Absheron Peninsula on October 19, while northwesterly Khazri winds are forecast to strengthen, Operative Information Center-OMM reports. These weather conditions may cause discomfort for some people sensitive to weather changes.
Changing weather, stronger winds and fluctuations in atmospheric pressure may affect how people who are particularly sensitive to weather feel. However, weather changes do not affect everyone in the same way, and any discomfort may not be caused solely by meteorological factors.
HOW CAN KHAZRI WINDS AFFECT PEOPLE?
As Khazri winds strengthen, some people may experience headaches, weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, reduced concentration and general discomfort. People sensitive to weather say they react more strongly to changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure. However, these symptoms vary from person to person and cannot necessarily be attributed to the wind.
What should people with blood pressure problems watch for?
People with hypertension or other cardiovascular conditions may feel unwell during weather changes. However, stronger Khazri winds do not mean that everyone’s blood pressure will rise. They are advised to monitor their blood pressure as recommended by their doctor, take medication as prescribed and not change the dosage on their own.
Can headaches and weakness occur?
Some people sensitive to weather may experience headaches, fatigue and difficulty concentrating when the weather changes. Certain weather changes may also trigger attacks in people with migraines. However, headaches can also be caused by lack of sleep, dehydration, stress and other health problems. If a headache is severe, starts suddenly or recurs, it should not be attributed solely to the weather.
What should older people and those with chronic conditions do?
Older people and those with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions should monitor their health closely if they feel unwell. During strong winds, it may help to avoid spending long periods outdoors, dress appropriately for the weather and maintain a regular daily routine. People with chronic conditions should follow their doctors’ individual advice.
WHAT SHOULD PEOPLE SENSITIVE TO WEATHER DO?
In line with general health advice from specialists, people who experience discomfort during weather changes are advised to keep the following points in mind:
- Maintain a daily routine: Get enough sleep and keep your sleep schedule as consistent as possible.
- Pay attention to fluid intake: Drink enough water during the day and avoid situations that could lead to dehydration.
- Dress for the weather: Protect yourself from the cold in windy conditions and take changes in temperature into account.
- Adjust physical activity to how you feel: If you feel weak, avoid heavy physical work and excessive exertion.
- Do not change medication on your own: Do not stop taking medication for blood pressure or other chronic conditions, or increase the dosage, without consulting your doctor.
- Monitor symptoms: If discomfort recurs frequently, it may help to note when it occurs and consult a doctor.
Strong winds and changes in atmospheric pressure do not cause health problems for everyone. However, symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, a sudden and very severe headache, or sudden weakness on one side of the body should not be dismissed as weather-related. In such cases, call emergency medical services.
