Washington has officially denied reports claiming that an Iranian missile strike targeted and hit a United States Navy vessel in the region. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the denial was shared by Axios correspondent Barak Ravid on his X account, citing a high-ranking US official who dismissed the claims as unfounded.
The denial follows reports from Middle Eastern media outlets and the Iranian Fars News Agency, which alleged that Iranian naval forces launched a missile attack against a US warship attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. The reports claimed that two missiles successfully struck the target near Jask Island after the vessel purportedly ignored warnings from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to halt its course. According to these local sources, the vessel was allegedly forced to retreat following the strike, though no casualties were reported in the initial claims.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes daily.
