Real Madrid midfielder Vinicius Junior has commented on his four-match La Liga ban following his side’s 4-3 Champions League victory over Roma. He was sent off during the 1-0 match against Valencia for grabbing opponent Nathan-Dylan Saliba by the hair.
Vinicius said he was informed of the suspension when his team arrived at the stadium. “They had a whole day to announce the suspension decision. But I was told only when I arrived at the stadium that I would miss four matches in the Spanish league,” ESPN quoted him as saying.
The Brazilian player said no one had explained the rule on punishment for hair-pulling to him. According to Vinicius, representatives of La Liga and the referees’ committee regularly meet with players to explain the rules, but this issue was not discussed. He said he had received a red card but had not acted aggressively toward other players.
He added that he is often fouled, but that cards are usually shown to him. Because of the suspension, Vinicius will miss his team’s next four La Liga matches against Sevilla, Barcelona, Racing and Valencia.
