Neftçi head coach Konstantinos Vasiliadis assessed his team’s 61-73 defeat to Estonia’s Parnu in the second leg of the FIBA Europe Cup qualifying round.
The Baku-based side advanced to the group stage on aggregate thanks to the 13-point advantage it secured in the first leg.
Although Vasiliadis said he was pleased with the result, he described the team’s performance in the second game as unsatisfactory.
“I am pleased that we advanced to the group stage, but today’s performance did not satisfy me. The team could not prepare properly for the game, and the players’ understanding on the court was also below the level I wanted,” the head coach said.
The coach said the advantage from the first game should not have affected the team’s determination to win. He stressed the importance of fighting at maximum intensity in every game and contributing to the team both defensively and offensively.
The head coach said the team had failed to convert some of the chances it created in attack, showing that concentration had dropped in certain episodes. Vasiliadis added that he would consider giving more playing time to other basketball players in upcoming games.
The Neftçi coach stressed that the team had not entered the tournament merely to participate, adding that its aim was to win as many games as possible and achieve strong results.
The FIBA Europe Cup is the third-tier men’s club competition organized by FIBA Europe, providing teams with the opportunity to compete internationally and progress through group and knockout stages.
