The United States has sent two additional Patriot air defense batteries to Saudi Arabia and Qatar to protect oil and gas facilities.

Operative Information Center-OMM reported the news, citing sources at Axios.

According to the report, US forces sent a Patriot battery to Saudi Arabia in September to defend one of the country’s main oil facilities. The other battery was deployed to protect a gas facility in Qatar.

Axios wrote that Washington intends to assure the two allies that the United States will protect their key energy facilities. The move comes amid the possibility that US President Donald Trump could decide to resume large-scale military operations against Iran.

The report also said the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and its strike group left San Diego on Sept. 27 and headed for the Middle East. The group is expected to arrive in the region in mid-November.

Theodore Roosevelt is expected to join the USS George Bush, which has been in the region since March, and the USS George Washington, which was sent from Japan to the Middle East during the summer and has been in the region for about a month.
