The United States military is reportedly conducting a specialized operation in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the safe passage of oil tankers, according to reports citing US officials.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing information from the Axios publication, that the operation has been ongoing for several weeks. Under this initiative, 15 to 20 oil tankers pass through the southern channel of the Strait of Hormuz each night to enter and exit the region.
According to US officials, this route facilitates the transport of approximately 10 million barrels of oil to global markets daily. While this figure represents roughly half of pre-conflict levels, it plays a critical role in preventing significant disruptions to the global energy supply chain. The operation covers both the safe exit of loaded tankers and the entry of empty vessels from the Gulf of Oman into the Persian Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz.
Reports indicate that vessels move in two separate convoys during designated nightly time slots, guided by US military directives. This operation was reportedly made possible following a two-week military campaign by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) targeting Iranian radar and maritime surveillance systems. The operation is allegedly being coordinated from Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
