Tunisian military expert Abdul Hamid Mahfuzi told TASS that the United States failed to achieve any of the objectives of its military operation against Iran and was forced to declare a ceasefire on Tehran's terms.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Mahfuzi stated that the two-week ceasefire announced by the parties is part of "conflict resolution efforts, but not yet a final solution." The expert noted that the ceasefire stemmed from a state of exhaustion on the part of the U.S., which had been operating under an "illusion of superiority" and pressure from its Israeli ally.
Mahfuzi added that the ceasefire, which was urgently initiated—and essentially sought—by the U.S., was reached on Iran's terms. He emphasized that this was a direct result of the failure of US President Donald Trump's administration to achieve any of its declared or undeclared goals. The expert further explained that the U.S. and Israel had different objectives for the Iranian operation: "The U.S. pursued strategic goals, particularly to contain China, which depends on energy imports from the Gulf region. Conversely, Israel's goals were to remove Iran from the regional political equation and prevent the country from fulfilling its nuclear and missile ambitions."
The analyst believes that instead of encouraging regime change and destabilizing the country, the conflict had the opposite effect by unifying Iranian society. Furthermore, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz was "something the U.S. did not expect," leading to a major global economic disaster that primarily impacted American allies. In the broader geopolitical context, the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical oil transit chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes daily, making any disruption a significant threat to global energy security and international trade stability.
