US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi have held high-level discussions regarding the ongoing military tensions between Washington and Tehran.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the meeting, which took place in Washington on July 14, was summarized in a statement by US Department of State spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

During the talks, the officials reviewed a range of bilateral and regional issues, specifically addressing what the United States characterizes as Iran's ongoing attacks on maritime vessels and regional nations. Secretary Rubio condemned these actions, including strikes that impacted Jordanian territory, and expressed gratitude to the Jordanian Foreign Minister for the Kingdom's significant contributions to strengthening regional security.

The discussion comes against the backdrop of heightened instability in the Middle East, a region where Jordan plays a pivotal role as a strategic US ally. Previously, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a strike on an American airbase located in Jordan, an event that has further complicated the diplomatic and security landscape between the involved parties.
