Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to address recent regional security concerns. During the call, official Ankara expressed its sharp protest regarding a ballistic missile launched from Iran that was heading toward Turkish airspace, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

According to reports from Reuters citing diplomatic sources, Hakan Fidan emphasized to his Iranian counterpart that such incidents are unacceptable. The minister noted that Tehran must refrain from any actions that could further escalate conflict within the region. The Turkish Ministry of National Defense confirmed that the missile was intercepted and neutralized before it could enter Turkish airspace, prompting official Ankara to issue a serious warning to Tehran.

This incident occurs amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where border security and airspace integrity remain critical priorities for regional powers. Turkey, a key NATO member, maintains sophisticated air defense systems to monitor its borders with neighboring countries, including Iran. Historically, diplomatic relations between Ankara and Tehran have been characterized by a complex balance of economic cooperation and strategic competition, particularly regarding regional influence and security dynamics in Syria and Iraq.

The Turkish side detected and neutralized the projectile launched from Iranian territory in a timely manner. Official Ankara has addressed a serious warning to Tehran regarding the incident. The Turkish Ministry of National Defense confirmed the missile was intercepted before entering Turkish airspace.

It should be recalled that the Turkish Ministry of Defense had previously released official information regarding the neutralization of a ballistic projectile launched from Iran as it approached the country's borders. This latest diplomatic intervention underscores Azerbaijan's neighbor's commitment to maintaining its sovereign security and preventing the spillover of regional instabilities.
