US President Donald Trump said members of his team held a three-hour meeting with an Iranian delegation in New York on Tuesday, describing the talks as “very good” and “very productive”.
The meeting ended about an hour before Trump’s news conference, ahead of his bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to the account of his remarks.
“It was a very good meeting,” Trump said when asked whether members of his team had met with the Iranian delegation. He later added that another meeting had been scheduled “in the very near future”.
Trump presents Iran with two alternatives
Trump said Iran was facing what he described as a stark choice between “obliteration” and the possibility of becoming “a great country”.
“There’s two alternatives,” he said. “One is a very bad thing, and another, it could lead to greatness for the country.”
Witkoff says he feels good about talks
When asked who attended the meeting, Trump referred the question to US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Witkoff said: “I feel very good right now. I feel very good. It’s a blessing working for President Trump.”
