England defeated Czechia 2-0 in the second round of the UEFA Nations League. Trent Alexander-Arnold started for the national team for the first time since October 2024.
The Liverpool defender assisted Anthony Gordon’s goal in the 47th minute.
“When the opposition goes down to 10 men, extra responsibility falls on us. We have to win the game. In fact, that makes the task even more difficult because the opposition starts playing compactly with many players in defense,” Alexander-Arnold told ITV Sport.
He said England had enjoyed a great deal of possession near and inside the opposition penalty area, but that breaking down the defense had not been easy. The player added that at halftime he had told Gordon to move toward the far post when he prepared to deliver a cross from the wing.
“Representing your country is always an honor and a pleasure. I have always believed that I could play for England and have always wanted to do so. Today, the coach gave me the opportunity. I am trying to carry out his instructions as well as I can,” the defender added.
The UEFA Nations League is a competition for European national teams designed to provide regular competitive fixtures and reduce the number of international friendlies. England’s victory strengthened its position in the group standings.
