South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have agreed to deepen cooperation between their countries in strategic sectors, including nuclear power plants and defense production.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Yonhap news agency.
“Today, President Erdoğan and I agreed to expand the prospects for bilateral cooperation based on deep friendship and trust. The two countries will seek closer cooperation in strategic sectors, including nuclear power plants, defense production and infrastructure,” Lee said at a joint news conference in Seoul.
He said the two sides had noted progress in cooperation on Türkiye’s project to build a nuclear power plant in Sinop, in which South Korea also plans to participate.
South Korea’s state-owned Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) and Türkiye’s Turkiye Nuclear Energy Company signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for the project during a 2025 summit between Lee and Erdoğan, and began a preliminary feasibility study.
Erdoğan travelled to South Korea on Monday for a three-day state visit, his first trip to the country since 2018.
