Azerbaijan's weather service warns of sleet, snow, and freezing temperatures across the country starting January 19.

Snow, sleet, and freezing temperatures are expected in Baku and across the Absheron Peninsula from the evening of January 19 until the morning of January 21. According to the national weather forecast, precipitation is expected to be intermittent, with more intense snowfall likely in specific areas of the capital and surrounding regions.

The National Hydrometeorological Service informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that the minimum air temperature on the night of January 19-20 will hover near 0°C. However, a further drop is anticipated on the night of January 21-22, with temperatures expected to fall between 0°C and 3°C below zero. Due to the combination of precipitation and windy conditions, short-term blizzards may occur in certain locations.

Unstable weather conditions are also forecast for other regions of Azerbaijan, persisting until the afternoon of January 21. Heavy precipitation, including sleet and snow, is predicted for various districts. In the foothills, temperatures may drop to 6°C below zero, while mountainous areas could see lows of 7–12°C below zero. In high-altitude regions, temperatures are expected to plummet to between 18°C and 23°C below zero, leading to the icing of roads in mountainous and foothill zones.

Such weather patterns are characteristic of the winter season in Azerbaijan, where the collision of cold arctic air masses with the milder Caspian climate often results in rapid temperature drops and hazardous road conditions. Authorities typically advise motorists to exercise caution and ensure vehicles are equipped for wintry conditions during such periods of instability.
