Serbian diplomats stationed in Tehran are being evacuated to Azerbaijan following damage to the Serbian embassy building caused by regional military strikes, President Aleksandar Vucic announced in an official statement.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that while the embassy was not a direct target, the facility sustained significant damage from shrapnel. "One of the strikes hit a Basij base. Shrapnel damaged our embassy. Regarding our diplomats in Iran, our personnel will be evacuated toward Azerbaijan today," Vucic stated. The head of state clarified that the Serbian ambassador will temporarily relocate to Baku before eventually returning to Tehran once conditions stabilize.

The decision comes amid escalating regional tensions and security concerns in the Middle East. Azerbaijan, sharing a border with Iran and maintaining stable diplomatic relations with both Belgrade and Tehran, frequently serves as a strategic transit and safety hub for international diplomatic missions during regional crises. President Vucic also noted that a large number of Serbian citizens are currently in the United Arab Emirates and will be evacuated at the first available opportunity.
