Portuguese singer and Eurovision 2017 winner Salvador Sobral has commented on the controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo, saying the Al-Nassr striker has a “demigod complex.”
“Cristiano Ronaldo has a demigod complex, which is why he finds it difficult to understand things like this. The coach decides who plays and who does not,” Sobral said.
The singer also criticised people for linking Ronaldo’s past achievements to his current form: “People mix everything up and say: ‘After everything he has done, this is ingratitude.’ What does what Cristiano did in the past have to do with whether he knows how to play now or is able to play?”
O Jogo published Sobral’s remarks. Recalling The Guardian’s description of Portugal’s performance at the World Cup as “10 men and a statue,” he said: “That is how it was.”
The 41-year-old forward reportedly left Portugal’s national team camp without authorization after head coach Jorge Jesus did not bring him on in the team’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League match against Norway.
