Rashad Rasulov, executive vice president of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation (AJF), said it was a source of pride to host the world championships in Baku.
He made the remarks while speaking at the competition’s draw ceremony. Rasulov said athletes from around the world would compete in a spirit of mutual respect and fair play.
The AJF official thanked International Judo Federation President Marius Vizer, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, and everyone involved in preparing for and organizing the championships.
Rasulov described the draw as the final stage before the competitions begin and wished the athletes good health and success. He said he hoped participants would leave Azerbaijan with fond memories of their stay and the country’s hospitality.
The World Judo Championships will be held at the National Gymnastics Arena from October 4 to 11.
