Russian President Vladimir Putin has banned individuals, with a number of exceptions, from taking more than 1 million rubles in cash out of Russia to the Eurasian Economic Union, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing RIA Novosti, that the Russian president has signed a corresponding decree.
According to the report, Putin has also extended a ban on the export of cash rubles from Russia to Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan by legal entities and individual entrepreneurs.
The decree prohibits legal entities and individual entrepreneurs from taking money out of Russia regardless of the amount.
Exceptions are provided for exports through international airports designated by the government based on confirmed bank statements, international transportation operations and diplomatic purposes based on notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Under the decree, if the ban is violated, excess currency will be confiscated from individuals, while the entire amount will be confiscated from legal entities and individual entrepreneurs.
The measure forms part of Russia’s currency-control regulations governing the movement of cash across its borders. Such rules may affect travelers, businesses and entrepreneurs conducting transactions involving Azerbaijan and other countries named in the decree.
