Transport is one of the main areas of cooperation between Central Asia and Azerbaijan.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made the remarks while addressing the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Azerbaijan and Central Asia in the city of Turkmenbashi.
“The Caspian Sea is playing an increasingly important role in transport links between our countries. Transport infrastructure on both shores of the Caspian is vital for connecting Central Asia with Azerbaijan and, subsequently, with international markets,” the head of state said.
Aliyev noted that freight volumes across the Caspian are increasing significantly. “Our common task is to make these routes more efficient and competitive,” he said.
Aliyev also stressed the growing importance of the Middle Corridor. “Transit traffic along this route increased by more than 10% last year and by approximately another 20% in the first eight months of this year,” he said.
