President Ilham Aliyev has extended his condolences to the acting President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, following a devastating earthquake in the country.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the letter states:

"I was deeply saddened by the news of the significant loss of life and destruction caused by the powerful earthquake in Venezuela. In connection with this tragedy, on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, I extend my deepest condolences to you, the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and to the entire people of Venezuela. I wish a speedy recovery to the injured and those affected."

The earthquake, which struck northern Venezuela on the night of June 25, registered a magnitude of 7.1. The US Geological Survey subsequently reported two additional tremors with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, occurring within 40 seconds of each other. In response to the catastrophe, the Venezuelan government has declared a state of emergency, as the death toll from the disaster has surpassed 1,700 people.

Venezuela is located in a seismically active region, frequently experiencing tectonic activity due to its proximity to the boundary between the Caribbean and South American plates. Such high-magnitude seismic events often result in significant infrastructure damage and humanitarian crises, necessitating international cooperation and rapid disaster response efforts.
