President Ilham Aliyev and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations and regional developments.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the information was shared on the official X account of the President of Azerbaijan. During the call, the leaders reaffirmed the brotherly and strategic ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, expressing satisfaction with the continuous expansion of cooperation in key areas, including energy, trade, and people-to-people contacts. Prime Minister Sharif highlighted Azerbaijan's role in advancing the global urban agenda as the host of the upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku. While Sharif noted he could not attend personally due to urgent matters, he ensured Pakistan's high-level representation. President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude for the attention to the Forum, emphasizing its importance as a leading international platform.

The relationship between Azerbaijan and Pakistan is characterized by deep-rooted historical ties and mutual support on international platforms. Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence and has consistently supported its territorial integrity, particularly regarding the Garabagh region. This strategic partnership has recently evolved into a tripartite framework involving Türkiye, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and security. The upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku further underscores Azerbaijan's growing influence in hosting major international summits, reflecting the country's commitment to sustainable urban development and global cooperation.
