The Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON) has been granted new authority regarding the management of the Space Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Azercosmos), specifically concerning the appointment and dismissal of deputy chairmen of the agency's Management Board.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to formalize this administrative change.
Previously, these personnel management responsibilities were under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport. This shift is part of broader efforts to streamline the governance structure of state-owned entities and public legal entities within Azerbaijan, ensuring more centralized oversight through the AZCON framework.
Azercosmos, established in 2010, serves as the primary satellite operator in the South Caucasus. It plays a critical role in Azerbaijan's space industry, managing the country's telecommunications and Earth observation satellites, and contributing significantly to the nation's digital transformation strategy.
