President Ilham Aliyev has signed a law approving amendments to the Customs Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, marking a significant update to the regulatory framework governing the country's import operations.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the new legislation mandates that for imported goods subject to technical regulations and referenced standards, importers must submit specific documentation to customs authorities. This includes certificates of conformity, declarations of conformity, and recognized foreign-origin conformity documents, which must be verified during the customs clearance process in accordance with the Law on Technical Regulation.
These requirements will apply to imported goods only two years after both the relevant technical regulations and the referenced standards have entered into force. This transition period is designed to allow businesses and importers sufficient time to align their operations with the updated regulatory standards.
The Customs Code serves as the primary legal instrument regulating the movement of goods across the borders of Azerbaijan. By aligning customs procedures with international technical regulations, the government aims to enhance the transparency and efficiency of trade, ensuring that imported products meet safety and quality benchmarks consistent with both national and global standards.
