President Aliyev appoints new court chairpersons

President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree on the appointment of chairpersons and judges to several courts of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Operative Information Center-OMM reports.

According to the decree, guided by clauses 9 and 32 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and taking into account the proposals of the Judicial-Legal Council, several key judicial appointments and transfers have been made in accordance with Article 94 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Courts and Judges".

Under the decree, the following appointments have been made for the courts of appeal:

  • Mubariz Akbarov – Chairperson of the Baku Court of Appeal
  • Tofig Pashayev – Chairperson of the Sumgait Court of Appeal
  • Nuru Guliyev – Chairperson of the Sheki Court of Appeal
  • Vali Abdullayev – Chairperson of the Shirvan Court of Appeal

For the courts of grave crimes, Rashad Aliyev has been appointed Chairperson of the Sumgait Grave Crimes Court, and Rafail Aliyev has been appointed Chairperson of the Sheki Grave Crimes Court. Additionally, Fikrat Huseynov has been appointed Chairperson of the Administrative Chamber of the Shirvan Court of Appeal.

The decree also outlines several transfers and new appointments across military, commercial, and district courts. Notably, Tarlan Nusratov has been released from his position as judge and chairperson of the Jabrayil District Court and appointed judge and chairperson of the Khankendi City Court. Zaur Hajiyev and Gunel Samadova have been transferred from the Baku Military Court to the Baku Grave Crimes Court as judges.

These judicial appointments are part of Azerbaijan's ongoing legal and judicial reforms aimed at increasing the efficiency of the court system, ensuring transparency, and strengthening the rule of law. The Judicial-Legal Council of Azerbaijan regularly reviews judicial vacancies and proposes candidates to the head of state to ensure the continuous and effective administration of justice across the country's regions.
