According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, concerns are mounting ahead of the regional elections scheduled for September 6 in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. A poor performance by the CDU in these elections could intensify calls for Merz to step down.
Julian Schacher, a member of the CDU's Saxony-Anhalt branch, indicated that some party members are preparing to exert pressure for Merz's resignation following the vote. However, he noted that it remains unclear whether such a leadership change would effectively resolve the party's underlying challenges.
