More than 9 kilograms of illicit narcotics have been removed from circulation in Baku's Narimanov district, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The Operative Information Center-OMM reported that officers from the 18th Police Precinct of the Narimanov District Police Department conducted a targeted operation against drug trafficking. During the operation, 42-year-old Samir Mirzayev, a previously convicted individual suspected of acting as a drug courier in the capital, was apprehended.

A search of the vehicle in which Mirzayev was a passenger revealed 5 kilograms of marijuana, over 4 kilograms of opium, hashish, and heroin, as well as 1,112 methadone pills containing psychotropic substances. In his statement, the suspect admitted that he intended to distribute the narcotics across various locations in Baku.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. By court decision, a preventive measure of detention has been selected for Mirzayev.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan frequently conducts such operations as part of a broader, ongoing national strategy to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. These efforts are critical in maintaining public safety and curbing the illegal distribution of psychotropic substances within the country.
