Poland does not intend to forcibly return Ukrainian citizens of military age to their home country, according to recent statements from Warsaw.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, this clarification was provided by Tomasz Siemoniak, the Polish Minister-Coordinator of Special Services. The issue had been under discussion following requests from the Ukrainian side regarding the return of individuals who have left the country and are eligible for military mobilization.
"We have decided that the Polish police will not detain such individuals and hand them over to Ukraine. No such mandatory measures are planned," Siemoniak stated. The minister noted that mobilization rules in Ukraine are based on specific criteria, including age limits, family status, and the number of children.
While some Polish officials, including Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, have previously suggested that young Ukrainians living in Poland could return to join the Armed Forces, no official initiative for their forced deportation has been introduced by the Polish government.
The context of this issue remains complex, as the European Union has previously adjusted its temporary protection mechanisms for Ukrainian citizens. Poland has been a primary destination for millions of Ukrainians fleeing the conflict since February 2022, and the country continues to balance its support for Kyiv with its own legal frameworks regarding residency and international protection.
