An online petition has been launched on Change.org calling for singer Pink to be removed from her role with UNICEF. Organizers say Pink’s criticism of Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian statements is inconsistent with the organization’s principle of protecting children regardless of their nationality or background.

The controversy began after Pink criticized Macklemore’s performance at a concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. During the event, Macklemore expressed support for Palestinians, performed the protest song “Hind’s Hall” and showed footage from Gaza.

Pink later clarified her position, saying her message was about peace and dignity for all people. She also stressed that she condemned violence against children.

Macklemore removed from Sheeran tour

The controversy intensified after Macklemore was removed from the remaining eight US concerts on Ed Sheeran’s “Loop Tour.” Tour organizer Messina Touring Group said the decision followed objections from venues that did not want to host events featuring Macklemore.

Macklemore told audiences that Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank had not been forgotten. He said one of his motivations for joining the tour was to deliver his message to a wider audience in large stadiums.

The rapper rejected accusations of antisemitism and said his activism was aimed at defending Palestinian rights and opposing the policies of the Israeli government.

Ed Sheeran said he was not involved in the decision to remove Macklemore from the tour. He said the decision had been made by the tour organizer, not by him personally.

Following the incident, Aaron Rowe, Beoga, Finneas and Lukas Graham also left the tour in support of Macklemore.

The petition says people associated with UNICEF should protect children affected by conflicts without discrimination and calls on the organization to reconsider Pink’s status. UNICEF has not announced any action against Pink in connection with the petition.
