The United States deserves competent and loyal allies and does not trust Europe to resolve the ongoing situation in the Strait of Hormuz, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has stated.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the Defense Secretary expressed sharp criticism regarding the level of support from European partners. "We do not rely on Europe, yet they need the Strait of Hormuz more than we do. Perhaps they should start talking less and holding fewer luxury conferences in Europe. This is more their fight than ours," the Pentagon chief remarked, explaining why Washington has frequently taken unilateral action in the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, as it serves as the primary transit route for approximately 20 percent of the world's total oil consumption. Located between Oman and Iran, the strait connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Given its strategic importance to global energy markets, the region has long been a focal point of geopolitical tension, often necessitating international maritime security operations to ensure the uninterrupted flow of global trade.
