Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has not ruled out informal contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Turkmenistan.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that, answering journalists’ questions at a briefing, Pashinyan recalled that he had called the Russian president on October 7 to congratulate him.
He noted that the leaders would be attending the same international platform: “We will be at the same event today and tomorrow. Contacts are certainly made in such international formats. Although bilateral formal meetings are not planned, informal discussions and dialogue are possible during the summit if the need arises.”
The next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State is being held in Turkmenistan’s Avaza National Tourism Zone. According to the program, on October 8 the heads of delegations will attend a national cuisine festival featuring CIS countries, followed in the evening by an official reception hosted by the President of Turkmenistan.
The summit’s main working session will begin on October 9. For the first time in the organization’s history, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also been invited as a guest to the expanded session.
