Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declined to answer whether an Azerbaijani soldier who crossed into Armenia in unknown circumstances would be extradited to Baku.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that, after leaving the question unanswered, the prime minister said a briefing would be held on Thursday.
“We have a briefing on Thursday,” Pashinyan said.
When asked again whether a decision had been made on the soldier’s extradition, the prime minister did not respond and walked away from journalists.
The Prosecutor General’s Office press service said on October 1 that a search for Nasimi Musayev began after he failed to report to his place of service on September 26, 2026, and his whereabouts could not be established. Relevant forces from the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergency Situations carried out the necessary search measures.
Meanwhile, the Military Prosecutor’s Office conducted an investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident. The investigation found reasonable grounds to suspect that Musayev had left his military unit without authorization.
Based on materials gathered during the investigation, the Military Prosecutor’s Office’s Investigative Department opened a criminal case under the relevant article of the Criminal Code. Necessary investigative and other procedural actions are continuing.
Measures taken established that Musayev was in Armenia and had been detained by the relevant authorities of that country.
Relevant Azerbaijani state bodies are continuing necessary contacts with their counterparts to clarify Musayev’s presence and detention in Armenia, as well as other circumstances of the incident.
The public will receive further information on the progress and outcome of the investigation in accordance with legal requirements.
