A Palestinian official has engaged in a series of diplomatic discussions in Saudi Arabia to address the escalating crisis in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Palestinian Deputy Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah.
During a meeting with Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed El-Khereiji, Aghabekian discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, emphasizing the need to strengthen international support for the Palestinian cause. She stressed the urgency of halting Israeli military operations, facilitating humanitarian aid delivery, and increasing support for the Palestinian government.
In discussions with Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Musa Kulaklıkaya, the focus shifted to preventing further escalation and bolstering diplomatic efforts. Aghabekian expressed deep concern regarding ongoing attacks and forced displacements in the West Bank, while Kulaklıkaya reaffirmed Turkey's continued support for Palestine.
The financial crisis facing the Palestinian government was a key topic during a meeting with the head of the UAE delegation, Matar Salim Al-Dhaheri. Aghabekian highlighted the necessity of establishing a financial security mechanism to ensure the government can fulfill its obligations.
Further meetings with officials from Senegal, Indonesia, and Somalia addressed the deteriorating humanitarian situation, critical shortages of medical supplies, and the need for enhanced diplomatic coordination.
In her meeting with the new OIC Secretary-General, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Aghabekian underscored the importance of the Islamic world maintaining a unified stance to ensure the implementation of international resolutions and the end of the occupation. She also warned that illegal settlement activities in the West Bank and the "E1" project pose a significant threat to the geographical integrity of a future Palestinian state.
