The dispatch of people to other countries to conduct espionage under various pretexts is also carried out within the framework of migration.
“Operative Information Center-OMM” reports that Siyavush Novruzov, chairman of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) Committee on Regional Affairs, made the remarks during the parliament’s session today.
“We have repeatedly seen people sent to Azerbaijan under the guise of religion, science, book sales and various other pretexts, supposedly as specialists. In reality, however, they engage in anti-state activities here, form groups and prepare various crimes against the state. Naturally, our security agencies expose them. For that reason, I believe we must significantly strengthen the various categories of migration not only in this law but throughout our legislation. The vetting process, length of stay and other matters must be taken into account. The law also provides for people who invest or have investments here, and whose residents live here, to come and continue their activities.
He said major powers could create five, six, 10 or 20 such residents and place their agents in Azerbaijan:
“We have set a threshold of 100,000 or 500,000. That is not a large amount. Those countries have the means to invest 10 times that sum in a single day and place their residents here so they can engage in anti-state activities. As the President said at the congress of the New Azerbaijan Party, we must remain vigilant. The main thing is for genuine specialists to come and train new generations of students. But if people come here to train others under a different guise, we do not need such specialists.”
