McLaren driver Lando Norris has explained how he and Franco Colapinto resolved a misunderstanding after an incident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Norris said their conversation ended with mutual apologies, GPblog reported.
“Everything went well. There was no need for a lengthy conversation. I apologized to him for some of the wrong things I said. He also apologized to me for the incident and the crash,” Norris said.
The British driver stressed that he has a good relationship with Colapinto. They often talk during track walks and briefings, he said. Norris also noted that deciding whether to impose a penalty was not within his authority.
Norris added that he apologized to Colapinto directly first and saw no need to do so on social media. However, amid public discussion of the incident, he considered it right to acknowledge publicly that he had been wrong. He said his comments on television had not fully reflected his position.
