NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that the alliance is prepared for the potential invocation of Article 5 regarding collective defense against Iran.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of the alliance made these remarks during an interview with the Newsmax television channel while responding to questions about NATO's response to potential security incidents.
"We have prepared for this. What we are doing within NATO right now is ensuring that every inch of the alliance's territory is protected," Rutte emphasized during the broadcast.
Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty remains the cornerstone of the alliance, establishing the principle of collective defense where an attack against one member is considered an attack against all. Historically, this provision has only been invoked once, following the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. The Secretary General's comments come amid heightened regional tensions and underscore the alliance's commitment to maintaining strategic deterrence and territorial integrity for all member states.
