Jimmy Donaldson, known on YouTube as MrBeast, visited Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on October 9. It was his first trip to Central Asia.
Donaldson attended a fan event organized by Uzbekistan’s Art and Culture Development Foundation. The creator of YouTube’s main channel, which has more than 520 million subscribers, took part in interactive games and quizzes and presented prizes.
Those who met the registration requirements were selected by lottery to attend the event. Participation was open only to people aged 18 and over.
A public fan zone opened near the Tashkent Center for Contemporary Art. Donaldson later shared footage of the crowd on his Instagram account, writing that he had not known so many people in Uzbekistan watched his videos.
During filming in Tashkent, MrBeast gave a total of 300 million soms to three participants who completed his challenges. Each winner received 100 million soms, or about $8,000. Donaldson’s crew was also reportedly planning to visit other Uzbek cities, including Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva.
One notable feature of the visit was a red Lamborghini brought by MrBeast’s crew. Photos shared on social media appeared to show scratches and damage to the car.
Law enforcement officials said the YouTuber had not been involved in a traffic accident in Tashkent and that the car had been accompanied throughout the visit. Donaldson said the Lamborghini was damaged in Delhi, India, not in Uzbekistan.
The visit was organized through cooperation between the Art and Culture Development Foundation and Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee. Organizers described the event as an opportunity to promote local creators and introduce Uzbekistan to Donaldson’s large international audience.
