Moscow is closely monitoring Washington’s latest position on the Ukraine crisis and the White House’s harsh rhetoric toward Kyiv. According to Bloomberg, citing sources close to the Kremlin, Russian political circles were surprised by the sharp criticism US President Donald Trump directed at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Russian officials were astonished by the severity of Trump’s rhetoric toward Zelensky, according to the agency’s report.
One source said such tough political statements were unlikely to produce tangible results unless the United States restricted the transfer of intelligence to Kyiv and reduced the volume of military and technical assistance.
The report also said Moscow officials remain cautious and hold limited hopes that the US president will soon secure a settlement to the Ukraine conflict that aligns with Russia’s national interests.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump spoke by phone on October 9. In a statement following the call, the White House chief said they had reached an important agreement aimed at ensuring stability in the energy market. Under the arrangement, Russia is expected to supply 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to global and US markets in October, 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons at a subsequent stage.
