An accident occurred during a professional wrestling (Lucha Libre) show in Mexico. Gerardo German Pineda, a well-known 75-year-old referee known as “El Búho,” died from serious injuries sustained during the “Deslealtades” tournament at the Deportivo 11 de Julio sports complex in Mineral de la Reforma, Hidalgo state.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that during an altercation in the ring, the wrestler known as “El Hijo de Fishman” performed a fatal “martinete” move on the referee, slamming him headfirst into the ring and causing severe trauma and loss of consciousness. Medical staff called to the scene responded immediately, but could not save the experienced referee.

“El Hijo de Fishman” was detained by law enforcement shortly after the incident. Hidalgo State Attorney General’s Office opened a criminal investigation into a possible case of negligent homicide. If found guilty, the wrestler could face between five and 15 years in prison.
