Argentina forward Lionel Messi said he would miss training with the team. He joined the national team camp on Oct. 5 and held his final training session.
Argentina will play a friendly against Benin on Oct. 7. According to the source, the match will be Messi’s last for the national team.
“These were special moments — I’m sure I’ll miss them,” Messi said in a statement shared by journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Messi won the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina, as well as the Copa América in 2021 and 2024. He also won the Finalissima in 2022 and Olympic gold in 2008. The footballer was also part of the team that won the FIFA World Youth Championship in 2005.
