German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in an official written statement that it was important to lay the foundations for a new international order in the Middle East in which Israelis, Palestinians and the peoples of the region can live together in peace, stability and security.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Chancellor Merz stressed Berlin was making active diplomatic efforts to achieve this strategic goal:
“Our government is working to achieve this goal. We believe that lasting peace in the region can be achieved only through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.”
The head of the German government paid tribute to those who lost their lives in military operations and conflicts that began in October 2023, and expressed sympathy for the suffering of affected civilians and their families.
Merz also drew attention to the rise in antisemitism in Germany, saying the federal government would take an uncompromising stance against such incidents. “Our government will resolutely combat all forms of antisemitism. Jews must be able to live safely in every part of Germany, and the social and cultural life of the Jewish community must flourish in our society.”
