Meloni: Aİ Rusiya ilə danışıqlar üçün vahid nümayəndə təyin etməlidir

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has emphasized the necessity for the European Union to appoint a unified representative to conduct negotiations with Russia aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from Reuters, Meloni argued that smaller groups and fragmented formats lack the sufficient legitimacy to represent the entire EU bloc. Consequently, she believes it is essential to appoint a single individual capable of articulating a common European position.

Meloni stressed that while Europe must engage in dialogue with Russia to bring an end to the conflict, this process must be conducted in a unified and coordinated manner. Her remarks come in the wake of recent diplomatic developments, including a June 7 meeting where leaders from Britain, France, and Germany—collectively known as the "European Trio"—met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to express support for Kyiv’s initiatives regarding potential ceasefire negotiations.

The Italian Prime Minister further noted that advancing the peace process requires closer coordination between the European Union and the United States. While acknowledging the complexity of such alignment, she described it as a necessary step for achieving a sustainable resolution.

Ahead of the upcoming European Council summit and the G7 leaders' meeting, Meloni reiterated her proposal for a "trusted and influential representative" who could effectively represent Europe's stance on the international stage. The European Union has historically struggled with a unified foreign policy approach, often relying on the individual diplomatic efforts of its member states, a dynamic that Meloni seeks to streamline to enhance the bloc's geopolitical influence.
