At least 13 people have been killed following a series of overnight missile attacks launched by the Russian military across various regions of Ukraine, including the capital, Kyiv.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing international media, that the strikes have also left 31 people injured.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that the attacks began at 02:23 local time, with the capital being targeted by ballistic missiles. According to Klitschko, structural damage has been recorded in two districts of the city.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that one person was killed and two were injured in the attack on Kyiv, while five people sustained injuries in the village of Skibin, located in the Kyiv region. In the village of Radushne in the Dnipropetrovsk region, five people, including two children, lost their lives, and eight others were wounded. Additionally, one fatality was reported in the Poltava region, and at least eight people were injured in strikes on the city of Lviv.
Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council, confirmed that a missile strike on the Novopil settlement on the outskirts of the city resulted in the deaths of six people, including three children, with eight others injured, including two children. Authorities have noted that search and rescue operations are ongoing in several affected areas.
Prior to the strikes, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had issued a warning regarding the potential for large-scale overnight air attacks by Russia. The ongoing conflict, which intensified significantly following the full-scale invasion in February 2022, continues to result in severe humanitarian consequences across Ukraine, with critical infrastructure and residential areas frequently becoming targets of aerial bombardment.
