A section of the Baku-Alat-Gazakh-Georgia state border highway passing through the Gobustan settlement has collapsed, leading to significant traffic disruptions.
The State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads informed Operative Information Center-OMM that the incident occurred at a canal bridge located at the 55th kilometer of the highway in the direction of Baku.
According to official reports, the collapse was caused by the breaking of a bridge span beam. Employees of the agency were immediately dispatched to the scene to implement necessary security measures. Currently, traffic movement has been restricted from the 54th to the 56th kilometer of the highway, with vehicles being diverted to alternative local roads within the settlement.
Experts from the agency are currently on-site to investigate the causes of the structural failure and determine the extent of the damage. Proposals for the reconstruction will be submitted to the relevant authorities, and restoration work is expected to commence shortly. The Baku-Alat-Gazakh-Georgia highway is a vital transport artery for Azerbaijan, serving as a primary corridor for both domestic transit and international logistics connecting the capital with the western regions and neighboring Georgia.
