French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon, highlighting the significant role played by the United States in the mediation process.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the French leader expressed his support for the diplomatic breakthrough via his official account on X (formerly Twitter).

"I express my full support for the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. I also express my concern that it could be violated as a result of the continuation of military operations. I demand that the safety of the civilian population on both sides of the Lebanon-Israel border be ensured. Hezbollah must lay down its arms, and Israel must respect Lebanon's sovereignty and stop the war," Macron stated.

The announcement follows a statement from US President Donald Trump, who confirmed on April 16 that Israel and Lebanon had reached an agreement for a 10-day ceasefire, effective from 17:00 Eastern Time. The deal aims to provide a window for further negotiations and a de-escalation of the conflict that has intensified in recent months.

The ceasefire comes amid a complex geopolitical landscape in the Middle East, where international mediators have been working to prevent a wider regional escalation. France, maintaining historical ties with Lebanon, has consistently advocated for the country's territorial integrity and the strengthening of its state institutions. This latest diplomatic effort, spearheaded by the United States under the administration of US President Donald Trump, represents a critical attempt to stabilize the border region and facilitate the return of displaced civilians to their homes.
