Manchester United’s Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez has clarified comments he made after the team lost 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the second round of the UEFA Champions League league phase. In a social media post, he said he had spoken out of anger and disappointment after the match.
Martinez said it hurt him to see the club fail to achieve results, given its history and reputation. His desire for Manchester United to compete for the biggest trophies, he said, reflects his high standards and his sense of responsibility toward the team.
The player stressed that the team must work harder and said responsibility rests first and foremost with the players. Martinez added that he believes in his teammates, the head coach and everyone working to help the club move forward.
He said his main aim is to win, compete at the highest level and give everything for the club’s badge. Martinez had previously voiced his dissatisfaction with the situation at the club, its management and his teammates.
