Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has addressed the escalating tensions within the current international relations system, describing the ongoing friction between Moscow and Western nations as a "serious situation."
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing an interview with the TASS news agency, Lavrov emphasized that Western countries are currently acting collectively against Russia. He stated that Moscow does not downplay the gravity of the current circumstances and views the unified stance adopted by the West as a significant challenge. The Foreign Minister further noted that this confrontation extends beyond mere diplomatic relations, serving as a component of broader, complex geopolitical processes.
Lavrov reiterated that maintaining independence from external influence remains a primary priority for Moscow, as Russia seeks to preserve its status as an independent power and a distinct civilization. While he expressed hope that Western nations, particularly in Europe, might eventually be prepared to integrate into a new international system on equal terms, he acknowledged that neither the West nor the United States is currently ready for such an approach. In the interim, Lavrov highlighted that Moscow is prioritizing the development of equal partnerships with other global powers, specifically mentioning China and India as key strategic collaborators.
