An official welcome ceremony was held for the President of the Republic of Latvia, Edgars Rinkevics, on April 22 in Baku.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that a guard of honor was lined up in the square decorated with the national flags of both countries to honor the visiting head of state.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev welcomed President Edgars Rinkevics. The chief of the guard of honor reported to the Latvian President, followed by the performance of the national anthems of both the Republic of Latvia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Members of the Azerbaijani delegation were introduced to President Rinkevics, while the Latvian delegation was presented to President Ilham Aliyev. The guard of honor then marched past the leaders to the accompaniment of a military march, after which the heads of state posed for official photographs.
The visit underscores the strengthening diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Latvia, which have maintained a strategic partnership for nearly two decades. Relations between the two nations are characterized by high-level political dialogue and cooperation within international organizations. Latvia has consistently supported Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while both nations continue to explore expanded economic opportunities in the energy, transport, and logistics sectors, particularly regarding the Middle Corridor initiative.
