LANDAU Lions head coach Erhan Toker has commented on his team’s 74-84 defeat by Sabah in the opening round of the Azerbaijan Basketball League.
The coach said the performance of the local players, defensive shortcomings and absences from the squad affected the team’s game. He said Ercan Donat tried to help, while Nicat Mammadli also made a contribution in the first half. Toker noted that Ismayil Abdullayev, however, had not met expectations.
According to the head coach, Sabah played more aggressively, and LANDAU Lions were unable to respond adequately to their opponent’s style. He said he was satisfied with his team’s effort and that they would analyze the mistakes made during the game.
Toker said Arnas Sakenis’ injury affected the match, while Edvarts Polayts had to carry an additional burden because he was not fully fit.
LANDAU Lions will next face Geneva Lions in the group stage of the FIBA Europe Cup. The match will be the team’s first game of the season in the competition.
The Azerbaijan Basketball League is the country’s top domestic men’s basketball competition, while the FIBA Europe Cup brings together clubs from across Europe.
