Brazilian footballer Kleberson has recalled how Cristiano Ronaldo was teased during his time at Manchester United.
Kleberson and Cristiano Ronaldo were teammates at the English club from 2003 to 2005. The Brazilian said their teammates would jokingly compare the Portuguese forward with Luis Figo and tease him about it.
“It is a funny story. We were sitting in the dressing room with Djemba-Djemba, Rio Ferdinand and other players. Cristiano was talking about Ronaldinho and other stars. Then he said: ‘One day I will be better than Figo!’” Kleberson told Sovetsky Sport in an interview.
According to him, his teammates replied to Ronaldo: “You must be joking. You will never be better than Figo.” “But he achieved it. Ronaldo built a remarkable career. It is difficult for me to compare players from different eras. I grew up watching Diego Maradona and later saw Lionel Messi. Figo was an outstanding footballer in Portugal in his era, and then Cristiano, Ricardo Quaresma and Nani emerged. In sport, there is always someone new,” Kleberson added.
Kleberson took part in the farewell match of former CSKA Moscow forward Vagner Love in Moscow on Sept. 26.
Ronaldo joined Manchester United in 2003 and went on to become one of the most decorated players in football history. Figo, meanwhile, won the Ballon d’Or in 2000 and was regarded as one of Portugal’s leading players of his generation.
