King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has sent a congratulatory letter to President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of Azerbaijan's Independence Day.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the message emphasizes the strengthening ties between London and Baku.

"Mr. President. On the occasion of Independence Day, my wife and I convey our most sincere congratulations and best wishes to Your Excellency and the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This significant day is a valuable opportunity to reflect on the enduring friendship between our nations. I highly value the strength of our bilateral relations and remain committed to further expanding our cooperation in the coming years," the letter states.

The King also highlighted the importance of joint action regarding global environmental issues: "As we face the shared challenges of our time, particularly climate change and the protection of our environment, I hope our countries will continue to work together for effective and long-lasting solutions. My wife and I send our warmest greetings to you and all Azerbaijanis, wishing for peace, prosperity, and well-being in the period ahead."

Independence Day in Azerbaijan, celebrated on May 28, commemorates the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom were established in 1992, and the two nations have since developed a strategic partnership, particularly in the energy sector and environmental initiatives, as Azerbaijan prepares to host major international climate summits.
